You have probably noticed in recent months that the city had to remove from the parkways throughout the neighborhood several large trees of different species who were at the end of their natural lives.

With many thanks to Openlands, a non-profit conservation organization, and our wonderful neighbor and GIPNA Board member Lorraine Antieau, new trees have been planted in a long term effort to keep Independence Park green and leafy for generations to come.

We also have the opportunity to preserve our existing ash trees.  As summer of 2022 gets into full swing, that means it’s time for the biennial Emerald Ash Borer treatment for our neighborhood’s infected (but still fighting!) ash trees.  After the city stopped treating these trees in 2018, GIPNA stepped in to arrange to continue to treat them.

GIPNA has obtained a substantial discount to treat the nearly 50 ash trees throughout the neighborhood, and we need to raise the funds to be able to proceed with the treatments that need to be administered in late summer.  We greatly appreciate the support we received for the 2020 treatments, and are hoping we can keep the treatments going again this year and into the future.
